WOW - Expo 2016

WOW Expo 2016
Across the school all classes have been working on wearable art exhibits as part of their Visual Arts / Inquiry learning.

On Thursday the 1st of December there will be a WOW Expo in the Tauriko Hall whereby students wear and parade their wearable art piece(s). Incredible time and effort has gone into each and every creation. All students from Years 1 - 8 are involved in the Expo with each class having their time in the spotlight!

All families, whanau and wider community are invited to attend either the afternoon or evening WOW Expo.

There is a matinee that starts at 12.30pm and an evening Expo that starts at 6pm. We would like all students to be at school by 5.40pm on the Thursday evening so they can prepare themselves in their classrooms. Students will be supervised by their teachers in their classes for the duration of each show.
Please pick up your child from their classroom at the conclusion of the evening parade. (Estimated timeframe is 1.5 hours).

Please park in the paddock adjacent to the school - follow the signs. A huge thank you to the Hopping Family for the use of their paddock.

There are amazing exhibits that we can't wait to see students wear, we look forward to seeing you there.

WOW Expo

Hi Everyone,
We are going to support the learners at Waiau School who have been affected by the recent earthquakes - see below for details.
The gold coin donations received at our WOW Expo this Thursday will go to this worthy cause (in place of a 'Mufti Day' as proposed by Waiau School)

On November the 14th, a major 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand with major damage to several South Island towns and Wellington. Waiau was particularly hard hit with severe damage to many houses, infrastructure and local businesses.

The local swimming pool which doubles as the community and school pool was completely destroyed. This was a major blow to the village as due to Waiau’s isolation, there are no other swimming options.

Waiau needs something positive to think about and look forward to, in particular the children who have been really struggling since the first quake and the continuing aftershocks.

We are proposing a nationwide business and school mufti day on November 30 to raise funds for the pool rebuild.

It would be hugely supportive if your company or school could take part and all proceeds donated via the Give a Little Page will go directly to Waiau School for the new pool.

Thank you for your support,

Mary Kimber - Waiau School Principal

& Verdon Kelliher - Former Waiau School Pool Caretaker

A huge thank you to Todd Couper for designing something special that is unique to our school and reflects who we are. A big thank you to the PTA for contributing to the cost of the uniform and to NZCT for the grant for the remainder of the money. A big thanks to Nika Rikiriki for putting the design into a digital format for us. We are thrilled with the job that Kanikani Kids have done making the uniforms.

The Kapa Haka will be performing on Friday at Ra Whakangahau at 2pm. The event is held at St Mary’s school and if you would like to come and watch please park at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre (QEII) and use the park and ride service that will be available on the day.
